Clerics

The Lord works in mysterious ways. He has plagued the world with the Vampire Sire at its foul minions, but He has sent the relief as well: the Cleric. As members of the clergy the Cleric works more for the benefit of others than for himself. This makes the Cleric a very political caste, and a very difficult one to play. It can be, however, very rewarding.

As leaders of the church, a Cleric's attempts to raise her honour by going to church to pray are always successful. When she reaches the rank of Priestess (fourth level) she may challenge the honour of other before the Emperor in a joust.

The Cleric lives by her principles. Taking a vow to ally always with the Lord, a Cleric may not take any other allies. Taking a vow of poverty a Cleric may not gamble, and can only keep 25,000 copper per her level. All excess moneys are donated to the Church and given to the needy.

Finally, a Cleric is eternally in opposition to the Prince of Darkness: the Vampire. Alone with Rangers, a Cleric may divine the True Name of the elusive Vampire -- and Clerics alone may destroy the vampire once and for all. The Vampire's evil creeps also into the church, and often when the Vampire can work with the Clerics -- or kill them all -- he is unstoppable. A Cleric of any rank may seek for the Vampire's name. Higher level clerics can attempt to slay it. Both commands have only a chance on working, based on the rank of the Cleric (and therefore, the power of her faith) and the rank of the Vampire (and so, it's demonic power).

Clerics are close to our Father, always. Any Cleric may use the holy power of divination to ask a vision from God. The vision will grant the Cleric sight about another players army. As such, Clerics never have need of spies. This gift also allows Cleric to see the other players bloodguards, usually hidden from the likes of spies. Divination costs 2 move.

Clerics gain the following abilities as they rise in levels:

At the rank of Disciple, the Cleric has finished her studies of theology. As a member of full-stature in the church she may pray on behalf of others. With the grace command, the Cleric spends 2 movement points and bestows honour upon another pl ayer.

When she reaches the rank of Acolyte (level 3) she may bless her troops, giving their weapons a holy glow and the grace of God in battle. This attack costs 6mp, instead of the usual five. Acolytes also gain the coveted ability to slay the Vampire. With 15 move, the Cleric reaches to Heaven and takes St. Michael's fiery blade. If successful, the Cleric gains half of the Vampire's assets -- but she also breaks Protection of the Emperors, if she has it.

Clerics of Vicar (level 6) or higher gain the ultimate powers over life and death! They may reach out to the Heavens and reclaim the souls of the dead, and resurrect fallen soldiers. For 15 movement points, resurrect brings back 10-25% of the chosen one's army. Similarly, at this rank, the Cleric may send to final rest the undead abominations of the Vampire's army. By spending 6 move, and casting turn, she will destroy 10-15% of the Vampire's army.

At the rank of Bishop (level 7)she may declare a crusade against another player. When a bishop declares a crusade, one to four random other players will answer the call and attack the reviled target. This declaration will cost the Cleric 20 mov e.

Once she has achieved the rank of Matriarch (level 8) she is granted the right to excommunicate Fighters from the Church, and so also from the three kingdoms of the Emperors. Such a fighter immediately becomes a barbarian. This ability costs 25 move.

At the highest ranks of the Clergy, Arch-Bishop (level 9), the Cleric may call for divine intervention. For 30 move, this powerful miracle resets the attacks and movement points of everyone serving under the same Emperor as the Arch-Bishop. A Saxon Arch-Bishop, for example, casts divine intervention for all Saxons.

Sanctuary? Revive?

Troops

Busy with matters of the Church, a Cleric only has time to manage 75 per troops per castle she possesses.

Fanatics(1/3)
These simple men and women come from the ranks of the peasantry, but what they lack in training they more than make up for in Faith. Their deep conviction leads them to keep the battle strong, until they give their dying breath for their Lord in Heaven. They can be enlist'ed from the peasantry, and forthwith train'ed into Crusaders.

Crusaders(3/5)
Soldiers with the spark of faith, the Crusaders are the mainstay of a Cleric's army -- supporting their siege engines, as well as cutting down their foes with heart and steel.

Monks(4/5)
These holy men study their whole lives in seclusion, learning not only theology and manuscript illumination, but many arts of open hand combat.

Templars(7/7, fs)
The very sight of these mighty warriors moving their warhorses in exquisite formation can cow an enemy to surrender. They wield crossbows as well as long swords and harbor an undying devotion to both Lord and God.

Bloodguards(10/14, x2)
The Emperors elite bodygaurd, trained from birth and given magical weapons and armor. Bloodgaurds cannot normally be bought, but only bestowed upon the most worthy players who quest bloodguard.

Trebuchet(12/0)
Mechanical contrivances engineered by the most apt minds of our time, these seige engines hurl might boulders... they are the most powerful weapon in their class.

Mercernaries
Arbalesters(5/5, fs)
At the end of many Holy Wars, here and abroad, the Templars often fall astray. Though still mighty warriors, riding powerful stallions and armed with both sword and crossbow, these crusaders now fight for profit, rather than the Lord.

Lancers (9/12, x2) Born of the noble class, these Paladins have received the finest education in horsemanship and warfare from a very young age. Knowing the God lends might to those who serve Him, some join the ranks of a Clerics army, using the money they gain to honour t heir Noble House.
