There, upon the highest parapet of my castle, I shielded my eyes from the wind. I could only vaguely make out my opponent. The shambling forms betrayed him... "M'Lord, it's the... vampire!" Beside me my scout rather slowly came to the conclusion. I only smiled.

As I turned to descend the hard stone staircase, I could see the shock on the face of my scout. In his eyes I saw all the question which he would not speak: "how can you smile, attacked by that..." It only made me smile more. For he didn't know the tricks I had up my sleeve.

Fighters

Trained in the arts of war, the Fighter class is the foundation upon which the Emperors have created their empires. As such, Fighters are the basic character type in Conquest. Do not think, however, that because they are the basic class that they cannot hold their own against the other castes -- to underestimate the Fighter would not only be foolish, but dangerous. The Fighter class is the most well-rounded and versatile. What they lack in advantages and special abilities, they make up for in having no appreciable weaknesses.

A fighter has no restrictions: he may freely visit the Tavern and Gamble. He may quest for items of magical power and when he reaches level 4 (Baron) he may Joust. A fighter may ally with another fighter.

As the class of starting-level characters, Fighters have the unique ability to change class once they reach third level (Champion). The following five commands are used to change class:

A fighter may ally with another fighter.

Troops

As a Fighter, your troops are the backbone of your kingdom. The fighter's ability to hold 100 troops per castle makes their armies among the strongest, compensating for lack in magics. The Fighter's complement of troops is as follows:

Renegades (1/2) Peasants given shovels, renegades fight out of loyalty to their liege... and because they have no other choice. They want nothing more than to go back to their farms and families. Renegades are not bought, but enlisted from the ranks of your peasantry. They can be trained into soldi ers for a small bit of copper.

Soldiers (3/4) The most straightforward of troops, soldiers don their armor and wield their swords for your honour.

Archers (5/2,fs)
Armed with long bows and sharp eyes, archers have "first strike" capability. Their arrows decimate opponents at range before the latter can retaliate. This makes archers coveted additions to any army.

Knights (8/6,x2)
Mounted on stout warhorses, Knights cleave through opposing ranks with speed and power. Their steeds allow them to attack twice every round.

BloodGuards (10/12)
The Emperor's own personal guard, the Bloodguards cannot be bought at market as other troops, but can only be quested for, and are only awarded to the most honourable players. Sure and true, the bloodguard's mysterious training makes them the most skillful warriors anywhere.

Catapults (10/0)
A mainstay in any medieval army, Catapults are required to capture a castle, as they are used to force open the doors, and attack those cowering behind castle walls. A catapult takes ten soldiers to operate.

Mercenaries
Corsairs (4/4)
Salt-smelling brigands of the sea, corsairs will go anywhere, even onto the steady land, for a turn of copper.

BladeLords(6/8,x3)
Trained in the arts of every blade, these well-named elite mercenaries decimate opponents with their speed and versatility. They attack three times every round!
