For days straight my master Ch35h1r3 and I worked, I lost track of the days. Outside the observation window I saw the sun and moon pass by, the constellations slowly drift. And still he worked, inscribing the Sacred Circle of Lune, speaking the incantat ions of Isis and of Osiris. He shed his robes and writhed naked on the Pentacle. Finally, tired and bleeding from his runic scars, he reached out to Dream itself and spoke the True Name of his foe. Ribbons of blue vapor streamed about him, and through the room. His work done, I threw his robe around him to warm his body and offered him my shoulder as support.

"Well done, m'lord," I said.

His words came bitterly, "As if you would know."

Magi

Some say that their Art comes from the Ancient Folk of the Isles, some say it comes from some sinister deal with the Devil himself... the truth is unknown. The Magi certainly aren't telling. In any case, these scholars of the Arcane are the weakest in b attle, the least likely to manage their troops well, or drive them hard -- but what they lack in military aptitude they more than make up for in the sheer power of what defines them: their magic!

In order to cast a spell a Mage needs two things. The first is the academic and physical strength to cast the spell. In order to cast a given spell the Mage must be the same or higher level as the spell itself. For a lower level Mage to attempt higher magics would by the purest folly. To check which spells are available to him, a mage may check his book. The second thing a Mage needs to cast a spell is the appropriate magical components, herbs and spices of particular meanings. Material com ponents can be gotten in one of two ways. The first is to quest component <component name>. The second is to buy the component in the magical city of Jasmon.

Mages are essentially loners, and although they loyally serve their emperor, none trust them very far. Therefore, Mages may not ally.

Troops

Due to their inexperience with purely martial action, the Mage may only keep 50 troops per castle she holds.

Apprentices(1/2)
Clothed in the green robes of the First Circle, the Apprentice knows little more than basic cantrips, and serves primarily to help about the Castle. Peasants may be trained into Apprentices with the enlist command. In turn Apprentices can be train'ed into BattleMagi.

Battlemagi(4/2, first strike)
For the rare scholar who knows the inner workings of the Magi, the Red Robes donned by these practitioners are feared and respected. Each armed with a magical staff, and an array of defensive and offensive pattern spells, the Battle Mage holds his own ag ainst any warrior clothed in mere steel.

MindFlayers(4/4, first strike)
Taken from the deepest labyrinths, the Mind Flayer's terrible alien powers are feared second only to the fact that they surreptitiously devour their victims in battle.

Necromancers(7/7, swarm)
Rebel magi who study the Forgotten and Forbidden Arts of Life Death, the black-robed Necromancers command hordes of the unliving and the rotten.

Bloodguards(10/12)
Trained from birth to be the elite bodyguards of the Emporers, the Bloodguards are granted magical weapons and army and sent to serve the most honourable of the Emperor's subjects. They cannot be bought, but may be sought out with the quest bloodguard command.

Stormthrowers(12/0, first strike)
Simple devices on the outside, the cauldron-drum of a Stormthrower launches a boulder covered in runes and filled with the tears of widows. They arrive at their target with preternatural force, erupting in lighting and rain.

Mercernaries
Fire Elementals(5/8,x2, swarm)
Living columns of Flame, these golems have no will of their own and only complete obedience to their masters.

FireDrake(12/20, first strike)
Compelled to battle by a much coveted Binding spell, the FireDrake attacks not only with it's dagger-sized teeth and sword-sized claws, but it's fiery breath. Riding on scaly wings, and protected by a steelly red hide, the Fire Drake is among the most po werful troops.
