Promotion

Conquest is violent and bloody, but it is not a haphazard melee without law or order. By decree of the Emperors there is an instated hierarchy, designed to keep more powerful warriors from attacking less powerful ones, as well as giving everyone in the kingdom something to fight for: glory.

Characters strive, not only to defeat their enemies, but to enlarge their kingdom so that they can achieve the next level. Everyone begins as a first level character, and may only promote by acquiring enough peasants, acres and honour. Below is a table showing all of the levels for all of the classes in Conquest. Note that the highest level that can be attained is ninth, tenth being reserved for appointment by the Emperors. Also note that Rangers can only achieve the seventh level, but it is comparatively hard for them to promote.

You may remind yourself of what is needed to promote by petition'ing your Sage. If you have the recommended number of troops when you promote, you will also be given bloodguard in reward for your honour.

Abdication

Conquest is a game of advancement, as is not designed for players to reach high-levels of power and then sit there, stagnating and making the game less fun for lower level characters... no, instead, by Decree of the Emperors, the highest level characters can only remain so for a limited period of time. When you reach the highest level for your class, 7th for Rangers and 9th for all other classes, you can remain so for a maximum of 7 New Year Housekeepings. As soon as you reach the highest level, you will drop any Artifacts which you are holding, and your alliance, if any, will automatically be broken. The wisdom of the Staff allows it's user, if she is a Mag e herself, to keep that Artifact.

Sometime before seven New Year HouseKeepings have passed, you must Abdicate. You drop down to first level again, on that continent, as if you were a newplayer. However, you gain much more than you previo usly lost. You gain the much coveted "Experience Level." For each time that you abdicate, you gain 4 extra mp every HouseKeeping. But far more importantly, she who gains 10 Experience Levels first, wins and ends that Age of Conquest. Her name will forever be placed in the annals of Conquest. Use the Titans command to look at the names of the Heroes who have triumphed in Ages past. Note, that when you are killed, you lose one of your experience levels (also called, "morts"), so to win the Age you must abdicate 10 more times that you were killed.
