I clutched the Holy of Holies impotently. The Chalice of Our Savior. It seemed so impotent now, it's divine glow overshadowed by the rolling clouds which surmounted this, my last castle. Either it had let me down, or me it. I beat my legs to shake off the rats, the cat-sized rats, which scurried all about the floor. Though I tried so hard not to hear, outside the cries of my faithful warriors rose above the thunder.

And then there was laughter.

My last few bloodgaurd jumped to attention, as the doors to my throne room burst open, off of their hinges. In seconds it was over, skeletal warriors and... things... moving about the room with blinding speed, severing limbs and eating flesh.

And all the while He just approached me, slowly, and laughed, as if to himself.

"Kill me now and get it over with." I said, mustering my last bit of courage.
"Oh no." He said, still laughing. "You have fought well and valiantly. I have better plans for you."

And in a rush of heat and blood, and I was reborn...

The Vampire, and his Childer

Whispered in dark corners, away from the Light, an ancient ritual is kept alive. Only undertaken by the very foolish, or the very brave, these incantations bind your soul to the Dark One: you die, but are reborn as a Vampire Lord! Any player may attemp t to undertake this ritual by using the vampire command. However, the Dark Lord takes his pupils carefully. If there is already a Vampire Lord, he will slay you out of hand. Even if there is no Vampire Lord, he may very well deem you unworthy of his Dark Gift. By undertaking the vampire ritual you make the greatest of gambles.

There is only one Vampire Lord at a time, living always alone in the darkness. He may not ally, even if employing the Diplomat. He may not visit the Tavern, nor does he take vassals in the normal way. Rather, whenever the Vampire Lord kills and opponen t, there is a (30% + the level of the vanquished) chance that the vanquished will come back as a Vampire Servant. These vassals cannot be released. The vampire, then, keeps only his enemies as his friends, and is bound to them for the length of his unli fe.

Lacking a life force of their own, vampires feed from the blood of the living. There is a chance, anytime a vampire wins a battle, that the vampire will drain one level from his vanquished. A knight whose level is drained will die, regardless of how man y castles she may have held. Perhaps the Vampire's most feared ability is the appearance they take of those from whom they have fed. When a vampire mounts an attack he will take the name and appearance of a random player in Conquest. e.g. When Vamp ire Childe MorpheusX attacks Friar_, Friar_ gets the notification that Vampire Chile tiklmelmo is attacking him. The same name, tiklmelmo, goes to the channel. Furthermore, the Vampire Lord can change his name once per housekeeping with the guise command. In this way he cannot be attacked, or be the target of any abilities, until his guise is first sought out by a cleric or ranger.

Vampires are the undisputed lords of the undead. Their connection to the Dark Lord automatically promotes them one level every NewYear HouseKeeping (nyhk), and they can promote no other way. In other words, they gain one level every day, regardless of their stats. A vampire who loses his last castle, will inevitably return. The Dead cannot be again killed. A Vampire Lord will return as a 3rd level Vampire, a vassal will return at 1st level. The Vampire's troops do not consume food, and they travel in the pitch of night, as well as the bright of day. Therefore, travel costs half move for a vampire, he may enter and leave locked cities as he pleases, and he cannot be robbed. When a vampire i s attacking or defending in battle, the very bones of the dead rise into an Undead Horde to join the fray.

Vampires, and their troops, are immune to charm.

At level 5 the Vampire may send rats to cause a Pestilence in a target player's kingdom. This causes the target to save or lose half of their food. When the Vampire Master attains Level 7, he may use the dreaded Charm . Gazing deep into the eyes of his adversary he can force them to obey any command, except password and corpse.

Troops

The Vampire may hold 100 troops per castle.

Zombie(2/1, x2 regeneration)
The peasantry of a Vampires kingdom live in constant fear that this will be their fate: that their Lord will enlist them by having them killed out of hand and raised from the dead as shambling corpses. Note , that unlike other peasantry, zombies cannot be train'ed into infantry.

Skeletons(4/3)
Rotted and hollow, Skeletons are the risen bodies of warriors from other armies. Sapped of their will, they fight with an eerie coldness, supporting the Vampire's scorpions.

Ghoul(4/3, x2 regeneration, swarm)
Recruited from the local cemeteries, the Ghoul are the long-dead, and are more self-conscious than Zombies or Skeletons. They can think, and think only of death; they can feel, and feel only hatred.

Skeletal Knight(8/8)
Mounted on the putrid remains of horses who fell in battle, the Skeletal Knight has none of the morals, and all the fighting prowess, of it's living counterpart.

Scorpion(7/0, first strike)
None but the ancient vampires remember the workings of these antiquated devices, but their ballast is nevertheless hurled with impressive force.

Mercernaries
Nosferatu(4/9,x2, regeneration, swarm)
The weakest vampires, created from the peasantry, these are vampires nonetheless, and so reign over their undead brethren with bloodswords. Lich Dragons(15/15, first strike) Raised from the bodies of rare dead dragons, the lich dragon retains it's fiery breath and gains an unworldly aura of cold, and a haunting silence.
