After a very relaxing week in Maui I returned to Conquest! to address several bugs involving the client and server (thanks to SeLTiC and MrEricScott for their efforts).  Most notably, was a bug which broke the client if you changed classes.  In addition to all the bug fixes, I managed to add a few new quality of life items.  First up, the client side bugs:
  • Client functionality after changing class.  Cut/paste error (the bane and boon of programming!)
  • Duplicate tooltips.  I finally figured out what was causing this (not using the same object each time)
  • Change the sell ship icon to the correct one (dollar sign)
  • Private message functionality was broken in several areas; these should be corrected
  • Win/lose sounds were playing, even when switched off
On the server side, the following bugs were addressed:
  • Fixed message for auto-promoting knights for lack of play
  • Fix for weather preventing jousting when it shouldn't
  • Update % of land player controls whenever they gain/lose land
  • Do not spam "You have the largest fleet..." messages
There were some significant enhancements added, most notably to alliances.  Before, the garrison was stocked purely based on the donations of members and classes drawing from the pool could only utilize the same troops (i.e. mages would only receive mage troops).  After some testing by SeLTiC and crunching the numbers in Excel, I made two changes to this:
  1. Troops in the garrison are shared among all classes
  2. Garrisons will attract troops to them and grant a bonus, based on give % (higher, the larger the bonus)

This should help alliances stock enough troops to make them worthwhile.  The troop type alliances give can also be changed by the leader.
Some "creature comforts" added to the client:
  • Hover over enemy fleet to see ships
  • Return of the refresh button
  • Added remote review
  • Added graphics for win/lose
  • Standardized the messages with "advisers" (i.e. Master of Arms, Master of Spies, etc.).  Over 60 messages were changed; hopefully they are all standard now and enhance the experience.
